Mysterious Goings On...

This term we have been learning how to write a mystery story. We know how to use clues to guide the story to it's resolution and even how to throw in some red herrings to lead the reader down the wrong path. We are publishing these on-line on the Scholastic website. Have a read and let us know what you think, did you guess 'Whodunnit?'.

Movie making

This term, our class has been busy writing their own playscripts to make into movies. We worked in groups of four to make our very first short movies. We were very excited and worked extremely hard on this project. On the blog we have written summaries about our movies. We hope that you will be able to watch these amazing clips. Let us know if you enjoy them or have any comments or feedback for us.

Moving On

It is nearing the time when room 14 will be split among various schools. Could you please add what school you are going to next year, and what you will bring with you. It could be memories, knowledge, or friends.

(Last year the year 6's had to write one of these so it helps to be prepared)

Thank You

Cross Country Superstars

Last week Red Beach SChool had their cross country competition. Room 14 had been training for a while and we had all set ourselves goals to work towards. What a great day it turned out to be, the sun was shining and we were all able to play ball games and have fun while we waited for our races. And we did really well when it came time to compete with 6 of us being chosen to go through to the Interschool Competition next week. The way everyone supported us and rallied around those who really had to persevere to finish was amazing - Red Beach really rocks. Wish us luck for next week !

Talents of music

In room 14, we have lots of people with different talents especially in music. We have people who sing, play the guitar, flute, violin, piano, drums and heaps more. There's also really good joke tellers and gymnists and a unicyclist. A few months ago, our class had created a band called the room 14 band. We did a performance at one of our assemblies and we had people singing, struming, playing the flute and also the piano. Our band sung "Boulevard of broken dreams" by the band Greenday. As well as a class band, a group of girls began a band for a competition. There were five girls altogether and two of them wrote a song for the band, we called it "Time goes by". Practices were held on fridays. But we worked together as a team we also had lots of fun doing it.

Our dear class mate Auztin

This week Room 14 have been really sad to lose their dear classmate Auztin. Here is a tribute we wrote for him to put in the newspaper:

Auztin. 23 June 2009. Auztin was unbelievable, the way he jumped straight into everything without any complaints. He took heaps of risks, like at camp, when he made it to the top of the Giant's Ladder without any help.

At Red Beach School we are proud to develop as Life Long Learners and Auztin was the best role model. He was a selfmotivated learner who persevered in everything in spite of his asthma. He was a great drawer, the Manga champion cartoon drawer at Red Beach School for 2009.

He always made us laugh with his great sense of humour and made up funny nicknames for us all, he wore the craziest hats and had the funniest looks that you couldn't help laughing at. He had a great imagination and dreamt of being either a mediaeval knight, a werewolf or what he truly loved - a 30cm ruler! He was such a creative person and an inspiration to us all in Room 14.

Room 14 will never be the same without your neverfailing smile, your rich heart, your friendship to us all. You will never be forgotten, Auztin. By Room 14 - Red Beach School.

Sweet success

On Friday 5th of June our class sold over 300 cups of hot chocolate for $2.00 each . Altogether we made $551.50 profit . About 600 children aged 5 to 11 bought a hot chocolate each. We took shifts starting at 1:00pm to about 1:45pm. Each shift was 15 minutes long. We were stunned at how many students turned up to help make a difference. The queue for the hot chocolate was 30 metres long. After, when we were finished we felt proud of what we just did, we realised we helped Kawama basic school in Zambia to buy proper stationary and to help them learn. Last of all we would like to thank all of the Red Beach students who made a difference and some local businesses.

Hot Chocolate Fundraiser

Our class is making hot chocolate to sell around the school to raise money for children in Zambia. One of our teachers is going to work in a school in Zambia and then the teacher from Zambia is coming to our school. You can read about Mrs Smith's fundraising here. At the moment the "accountants" are working out the cost of the ingredients we need.
